Begin preparation approximately 1/2 hour prior to the procedure.
Optimally, there should be two assistants, each wearing clean uniforms or scrubs. Both also don disposable shoe and hair covers and masks to prevent contamination. Be sure that all hair is covered and that the mask is applied so as to prevent air from escaping the sides or top and bottom of the mask.
The assistant who actively assists during the procedure will be designated the sterile assistant. The other assistant will not be sterile and will be designated the circulator.
While the sterile assistant scrubs, the circulator prepares the operatory.
